The Perks of Staying at the Westin Ka'anapali Villas
1. Access to the Ka‘anapali Beach Walk
One of the resort’s biggest draws is its proximity to the famous Ka’anapali Beach Walk, a scenic two-mile trail along the coastline. This path provides breathtaking views of the Pacific, lush tropical landscaping, and easy access to neighboring resorts and attractions.
2. Spacious Accommodations with Kitchens
Our studio room exceeded expectations. It was well-appointed with a kitchenette, making it easy to prepare meals and save on dining costs. For families or longer stays, they also have 1-3 bedroom villas available with more kitchen space and a large living and eating areas. Stay tuned for a review of the Westin’s 1-bedroom villa option!
3. Relaxing Pool Area
The pool area was a highlight of our stay. It was quiet, with plenty of loungers available, offering a serene atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Towels and sunscreens stations around the lounge areas were provided by the resort. The proximity to the beach made it easy to walk from our lounger to take a dip in the ocean if we wanted to break from the pool.
4. Direct Beach Access with Snorkeling
As I previous mentioned, the resort’s beachfront location is a dream for water enthusiasts. The snorkeling right off the beach was excellent, with vibrant coral reefs and a variety of marine life to enjoy. Snorkel rentals were available through the resort at a hefty daily fee or the best option would be to head to Snorkel Bob’s in Lahaina to pick up some gear for the duration of your stay for cheap – and supporting local businesses!
5. Vibrant Market Along the Beach Walk
A short stroll along the beach walk brings you to a lively market with clothing, craft, and food vendors. We loved the acai bowls from Maui Fruit Ninja — they were pricey at ~$18 a bowl but well worth it as you can choose if you would like your acai blend and fresh fruit served in a pineapple or papaya.
What We Didn’t Love
1. Distance to Whaler’s Village
While the resort on the beach walk, it’s a bit far from Whaler’s Village for a leisurely walk. If shopping and dining at the village are on your agenda, be prepared for a longer trek or consider driving.
2. Far from Black Rock Beach
Black Rock Beach is a popular snorkeling and cliff-jumping spot, but it’s not within walking distance of the resort. Driving to the Sheraton and parking (which is affordable) is a better option if you want to enjoy this iconic location.
3. Limited Resort-Style Luxury Amenities
As a Marriott Vacation Club property, the Westin Villas prioritize a condo-style experience over traditional resort luxury. While it’s still comfortable and well-maintained, it lacks some pampering features, like full-service spas or grandiose lobbies, that you might expect from a luxury resort.
Was It Worth It?
The Westin Kā‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas is an excellent choice for travelers seeking spacious accommodations, family-friendly amenities, and easy access to the beach. It’s ideal for those who prefer a self-catering setup and a quieter atmosphere. However, if you’re looking for a resort with luxurious amenities or a location closer to central Kā‘anapali attractions, you may want to explore other options.
Ultimately, the decision depends on your travel priorities. For us, the combination of convenience, comfort, and beachside access made it a memorable stay.
